Spring Speaker Announced for WSU Ethics Interest Group

The WSU Ethics Interest Group would like to announce that Mark Potok from
the Southern Poverty Law Center has agreed to be the group's spring speaker.
His talk will be Friday, Feb. 6 from 3:00-5:00 pm, location TBA.

Mr. Potok is Director of Publications and Information for the Southern
Poverty Law Center's Klanwatch Project, and Editor and Supervisor of the
SPLC's quarterly investigative magazine, Intelligence Report. Before
joining SPLC, Potok worked as Southwest correspondent of USA Today, where
among other topics, he was the newspaper's primary reporter on the rise of
the extreme right in recent years, as well as on racial conflict in the U.S.

Born in Paris, France and raised in Vermont, Potok graduated with honors
with a Political Science degree from the U. of Chicago. Potok recently
testified before the U.S. Senate on issues of hate on the internet, and
before the United Nations on high commission refugees.

Potok will speak at UI and WSU on his research on the League of the South
and other neoconfederate organizations. The timing coincides with the
presence of Steve Wilkins, connected with such groups, at a Christ Church
sponsored conference to be held at UI.
