This letter by Ralph Nielsen appeared in the Argonaut and the Daily News.
The letter raises some interesting theological and ethical issues. For the
careful reader, Ralph's letter contains a wonderful subtext (hint: ancient
scribe).

Dear Editor,
What a wonderful God Wilson and Wilkins worship.
Here is what an ancient scribe wrote: "When a slaveowner strikes a male or
female slave with a rod and the slave dies immediately, the owner shall be
punished. But if the slave survives a day or two, there is no punishment;
for the slave is the owner's property" (Exodus 21:20-21 NRSV).
