A booksigning is planned for the guidebook, "Getaways: 50 Public Places and Community Spaces in Latah County, Idaho," just released by Moscow author Bill London. This is the first travel book to focus entirely on destinations within Latah County.

The booksigning will be at BookPeople of Moscow, 521 South Main, on Sunday, December 19, from noon to 2pm.

The fifty chapters in the book, each covering a publicly-accessible destination in the county, includes well-known sites like Spring Valley Reservoir and less-known places like Pinestia or the Bethel Memorial Chapel and Cemetery. Chapters include historical and recreational information about the site, a contact phone number, and in many cases, maps and photos.

Moscow graphics artist Carol Hill designed the book. Moscow photographer Roger Ames shot the cover, a view from East Moscow Mountain.

London is the author of four other guidebooks: "The Umbrella Guide to the Inland Empire," Epicenter Press 1990; "The Umbrella Guide to Interior Northwest Antique Stores," Epicenter Press 1992; "The Natural Wonders of Idaho," Country Roads Press 1994; and "Country Roads of Idaho," Country Roads Press 1995. The "Getaways" book is his first self-published work.

London is a freelance writer, the author of a monthly travel destination column in the Moscow-Pullman Daily News. He has also written more than 700 articles in magazines and newspapers nationwide. In addition, he has a part-time position at Washington State University as the senior communications officer for the College of Education.
