Greetings Vandals -
To elaborate on what I had mentioned a while ago, the only two items in the
Idaho Statesman that I would put any faith in are page numbers and the day's
date. Other than that . . . (well, you know)

Subject: [Vision2020] more college football: conference reshuffling
I mentioned yesterday that 3 schools (SMU, Rice, & Tulsa) are leaving the
Western Athletic Conference to join Conference USA. The WAC commissioner
announced his intention of bringing in some Sun Belt teams, a scenario that
could put the U of I and Boise State back into the same conference.
However, BSU is lobbying the Mountain West (along with Nevada, Hawaii, and
Fresno State) to join their ranks. The Mountain West has not stated whether
they are even interested in expansion.

The Statesman announced today that Sun Belt teams, Utah State and New Mexico
State, will be invited to join the WAC. ESPN is announcing that it's a done
deal: "New Mexico State and Utah State will leave the Sun Belt Conference
for the WAC in time for the 2005-06 season, a source close to the
negotiation told ESPN.com on Wednesday night."

No word on where that leaves UI and the Sun Belt which will have only 6
teams remaining.
