Petition to Protect Water Quality on the Nez Perce National Forest

Current water quality standards on the Nez Perce National Forest
protect water for salmon, bull trout and other aquatic species.
Recently the Forest Service has proposed to lower these standards to
allow more logging. Logging is not necessary for a healthy forest or
protecting homes from fires as the FS suggests. In fact more logging
of this intensively logged landscape will likely increase the fire
danger and decrease the wildlife habitat.

Over the past 100 years logging, grazing and mining impacts have
continually degraded the South Fork of the Clearwater River. It is
time to heal and restore the area not weaken the water quality
standards that have been in place for over 15 years.

You have a chance to tell the Forest Service the water quality
standards in place to protect wildlife on public lands are important!
