> Palouse area youth are encouraged to apply to participate this
> summer in the daily enrichment activities in the National Youth Sports
> Program (NYSP) at Washington State University, said Johnny Jones, NYSP
> community liaison officer.
> The free program will begin on June 23 and will continue until
> July 31. NYSP is targeted to low-income families, however no applicants
> will be rejected, Jones said.
> The program is open to youth from ages 10 through 16 who live within a 60
> mile radius of WSU. That area reaches from Rosalia, Washington, to Deary,
> Idaho.
> There is no cost for the program activities, lunch, or bus transportation
> to and from the WSU campus.
> The participants enjoy a variety of educational activities,
> especially in math and science, as well as sport and recreation activities
> and college preparation programs. A total of about 250 youngsters are
> expected to participate.
> Approximately 30 WSU students work for the program as camp
> counselors and program assistants, Jones said. Those students gain
> valuable experience in directing camp activities and recreation programs.
> Jones invites all youth interested in participating to contact
> NYSP at 509/335-1309 or by email to <pricec@wsu.edu>.
