The word cult comes from the Latin "cultus" which simply means worship
or adoration. The Romans would speak of the cultus Iunonis or cult of
Juno in much the same way a Christian might say the cult of Mary or of
the Saints. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, one of the
meanings that cult has is, "A particular form or system of religious
worship; esp. in reference to its external rites and ceremonies."

Isn't a cult just a small, ( and maybe novel ) religious group.... sort
of
like the early Christians in old Rome?
