At 7:30am, Saturday morning, the MSD Board of Trustees is holding a
special meeting, purportedly to discuss school finances. Given the
Superintendent's penchant for secrecy and the Trustees complete
rejection of the promises made during last springs levy election, a
skeptical view of this "discussion" is a must. Without a long term
teacher contract, any discussion of finances is conjecture at best and,
more likely, the start of spin doctoring another million dollar levy
increase. However, on the off chance the Trustees are actually giving
serious thought to district finances, I offer a starting point for their
ruminations. The 2003-2004 district expenditures for employee
compensation (salary + benefits) shall not exceed $10,000,000.
