Perhaps someone can explain to me just a few things.
Not too many years ago in some state- I forget which, a woman and her husband
were convicted of child abuse/neglect for encouraging their young boys
to "fight it out". She and her husband videotaped the fight (which was later
admitted as evidence). Because they failed to intervene in the fight, during
which both boys aged around 6-7 got bloody noses and bruises, they were
convicted of neglect.
I fail to see why the exploitation of minors- that is allowing six year old
boys to get in a ring and fight to "help raise money for the boxing club" is
not neglect or abuse.
Six year olds cannot rationally/legally decide whether they are being
exploited. So the argument that "they want to do it" doesn't fly.

I understand that the potential for a child to get hurt is in every sport,
riding, football ect... But I cannot think of any other sport where six year
olds are supposed to purposely hurt each other. Isn't the point of boxing
to "knock out" the other person. Aren't the points scored by how hard you hit
the other person, how much damage you do to them? Isn't the winner not
necessarily the one who made the most blows, but the one who made the most
blows that caused the most damage?

Now admittedly my understanding of boxing is limited. I find it personally
repugnant. But I understand that adults should be allowed to participate in
sports that I might not want to do. But to allow, no to market, a "fight"
between six year olds is disgusting.

Not once in the Lewiston Morning Tribune Article did I see talk about the other
fights. I only saw the "tenacious six year old" fights being talked up. Are
they charging for this??

And people got upset about a boobies at a car wash!!!???
