All:

There it was in black and white, a short paragraph towards the end of an
article on the top of page A2 in the Friday, February 21 2003 edition of the
politically tame Spokesman Review:

"Washington has deepened its involvement in Columbia's conflict in recent
months, sending 70 U.S. Green Berets to train Columbian troops to protect an
oil pipeline carrying crude belonging to Los Angeles based Occidental
Petroleum."

This was such a matter of fact, almost banal admission of the connection
between U.S. foreign policy, U.S. oil and gas energy interests, and U.S.
military intervention in foreign countries, that I did a double take.

It is common to hear of big oil and/or gas connections in regards to the
pending war in Iraq, and also to the U.S. war and continuing presence in
Afghanistan, though many doubt oil and gas interests are or were a major
factor contributing to Bush administration policy regarding Afghanistan or
Iraq.

For evidence demonstrating U.S. energy interests and/or Bush administration
connections to an oil and/or gas pipeline in Afghanistan (U.S. backed ruler
Karzai worked for UNOCAL OIL corporation which has interests in Afghan
pipelines) and Iraq oil development, check the links below. I caution that
several of the links lead to documents that will take some serious reading:
