An untimely visitation of what our kids call "chickenpops" on our househo=
ld will keep me away from the meeting to which Doug Wilson extends a cord=
ial invitation and expresses his interest in shaking hands and hearing fr=
om others. (We're actually old classmates, Doug and I; we took an awful =
lot of Latin together back in the day.)
I'm not at all sorry to miss that other meeting, though. You know, the o=
ne Doug Jones mentioned while reminding us that everyone who disagrees wi=
th Christ Church's teaching is an enemy of God. . . that one doesn't soun=
d very cordial to me, and I'm better off at home. Especially after seein=
g *another* Christ Church ad in the Evergreen today; this one was all abo=
ut how dull, stupid, ugly, and heretical everyone who disagrees with them=
is. =20
That's quite a strategy for allaying the fears and concerns of black stud=
ents at WSU, their parents, and their allies and friends. What could be =
more comforting than knowing that a local church preaches that slavery wa=
s a good thing for black folks? Why, knowing that the members of that ch=
urch are willing to pay for weekly reminders that anyone who disagrees wi=
th that position is an apostate monster spitting in Christ's face. =20
Off to dab Caladryl freely on thousands of pox,

Visionaries,
Both Rose and Joan have declined the invitation to attend our town meetin=
g, =20
but our invitation to them remains open, and it remains cordial. I would =20
love to have this be an opportunity to meet many of the participants on =20
this forum, and I would be pleased to shake their hands at this event as =
well.
We are biased, of course, but we do not believe that conservative =20
Christians are orcs. We believe what we do -- firmly -- and are willing t=
o =20
defend it and in the appropriate forum, debate it. But we are (all of us)=
=20
created in the image of God, and we would like to put a personal face on =20
this fracas in order to help end it. We want to explain the distortions a=
nd =20
misunderstandings, answer the objections and criticisms, and hear what =20
people outside our church community have to say to us.
Who could be against that? Hope to see you there.
Cordially,
Douglas Wilson
