Special announcement for an upcoming play at the Kenworthy Performing Arts
Centre-

Open Auditions for The Beauty Queen of Leenane by Martin McDonagh

Sirius Idaho Theatre announces auditions for The Beauty Queen of Leenane by
Martin McDonagh. The cast for this powerful Irish play is especially
important for this production. Martin McDonagh, the playwright, has been
described by the New York Times as ³The most wickedly, brilliantly abrasive
young dramatist on either side of the Irish Sea.² Rehearsals for The Beauty
Queen of Leenane begin late July in Moscow and performances are September
8-10, 15-17, 2005 at the Kenworthy Performing Arts Centre in Moscow, Idaho.
Sirius Idaho Theatre will supply housing in Moscow and provide a stipend for
actors.

Open auditions are being held at the following locations:

Monday, May 2, 7:00 pm, Idaho Room at the University Inn Best Western, 1516
Pullman Road, Moscow, Idaho

Tuesday, May 3, 6:30 pm, Conference Room at Auntie¹s Bookstore, 402 W. Main,
Spokane, Washington

Wednesday, May 4, 6:30 pm, Buster¹s at ACT Theatre, 700 Union St., Seattle,
Washington.

The cast consists of four characters: two women one fortyish plain and
domestic, the other 65-70 stout and frail; and two men one forty good
looking local Irishman, one younger brother age 20. Irish dialect is
preferred at the audition but not required. Prepared monologues are
encouraged but not required.

Set in the mountains of Connemara, County Galway, The Beauty Queen of
Leenane tells the darkly comic tale of Maureen Folan, a plain and lonely
woman in her early forties, and Mag her manipulative ageing mother whose
interference in Maureen¹s first and potentially last loving relationship
sets in motion a train of events that is as gothically funny as it is
horrific.

The production is directed by Forrest Sears, Professor Emeritus of Theatre,
University of Idaho. Sears has directed almost a hundred productions in his
career; his latest was the Sirius Idaho Theatre production of Random Acts of
Love by Bruce Gooch, staged at the Kenworthy Performing Arts Centre in April
2005. In addition to the University of Idaho, he has worked at the Whitefish
Montana Theatre Company and the University of Wyoming Summer Theatre. He is
the recipient of the University of Idaho Teacher of the Year Award and the
Moscow Mayor's Award in the Arts as distinguished theatre educator.
Recently, he taught acting for the Youth Company at the Idaho Shakespeare
Festival, Boise and presented a master class in American acting at the
National Theatre School of Finland in Tempere.

Please forward this email to friends in Moscow, Spokane and Seattle.
