Many of you already attend the annual Ernest E. Smith Oil, Gas & Mineral Law Institute each spring in Houston . This year, we are partnering with the Oil, Gas and Energy Resources Law Section of the State Bar of Texas and leading academics to offer a one-day Boot Camp: Fundamentals of Oil, Gas & Mineral Law that precedes the Ernest E. Smith Institute. 

The price of oil is currently low, but the futures market shows an upward trend—now is the time to get new staff trained on the fundamentals of oil, gas and energy law.

The Institute brings together all the major players—attorneys, corporate lawyers, E & P operators and landmen—for one day of top-flight presentations on the latest in oil and gas developments, including the traditional case law update by Ernest E. Smith. 

The 2009 program includes presentations by industry experts on the Coastal v. Garza ruling, a look at conflicts between oil and gas operations and wind operations, an examination of commodity prices and a comparison of Texas and Louisiana oil and gas law. 

The Institute in Houston concludes with the Annual Meeting of the Oil, Gas and Energy Resources Law Section. Plan to attend the Section meeting and vote for officers.
