The Moscow School District Board of Trustees is
holding an Information Forum as indicated below to inform you and solicit your
input concerning changes in the Idaho State High School Graduation Requirements
and what that might mean for Moscow High School's future course offerings.
As a parent, I strongly urge you to become informed and make your desires known
to the trustees at this forum before more concrete decisions need to be
made. Even though the graduation requirements are for the year of 2013,
the students that graduate that year will be next year's freshmen, this year's
8th graders. So, decisions need to be made NOW in order to be implemented
for next year's freshman class.

The most significant of the changes concern
increases in math and science credits already approved at the state level.
These changes in math and science require other changes in the
offerings to be made at Moscow High School since extra time and extra money
are not part of the package from the state. The Moscow School District
currently requires a total of 46 credits to graduate which exceeds the current
state requirement of 42 credits. If no changes are made in
Moscow's total credits for graduation, for the class of 2013 and beyond,
Moscow's and the state's total credit requirements will be the same.
Therefore, if 4 math and science credits are added, then 4 credits of something
else will disappear from the total credit requirements (46) at
MHS and from the offerings available at the school. One of the
reductions being considered is a reduction in the Social Studies requirements
(MHS = 9; state = 5). Other possible reductions include PE, foreign languages,
music, art, and other electives.

trustees so that they can make informed decisions about what types of courses we
want required of our children before they graduate high school.
