our October 2, 2007 meeting are below. <b>Our next meeting is November 6,
2007 at 7:15 a.m. in room 216. MSD Superintendent Candis Donicht will
attend to answer any questions you might have about the November 13th school
levy.<o:p></o:p></b></span></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:14.0pt'><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class=MsoNormal style='text-autospace:none'><span style='font-size:14.0pt'>It’s
also time for the “Dinner and a Book” Initiative sponsored by the
Idaho Department of Education. The program encourages parents to spend
time building memories and skills for a lifetime of learning with their
children. <b>There are two ways you can choose to participate: One
way is to simply purchase a new or slightly used book and donate it to the
Dinner & Book Collection box, which will be located on the first floor near
the office starting November 4<sup>th</sup>. </b></span><span
style='font-size:14.0pt'>A volunteer will collect the books from each donation
site, the first collection will be <b>November 9th</b> and the final on <b>December
7<sup>th</sup></b>. The books will then be taken to a local Food Bank where
they will be placed in designated holiday food baskets, for local families in
need, and distributed at both Thanksgiving and Christmas.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><b><span style='font-size:14.0pt'><o:p> </o:p></span></b></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><b><span style='font-size:14.0pt'>Another way to support the
program would be to give a monetary donation to West Park Elementary School, and
they will do the purchasing for you! Monetary donations can be left
in the MJHS office for the parent group, and we will forward them to West Park.<o:p></o:p></span></b></p>

<li class=MsoNormal style='mso-list:l1 level1 lfo1'>October 3 –
curriculum meetings in the morning and staff meeting in the
afternoon. Will examine ISAT data. Official results are due in
November.<o:p></o:p></li>
<li class=MsoNormal style='mso-list:l1 level1 lfo1'>Thursday and Friday are
Professional Development days statewide. <o:p></o:p></li>
</ul>
<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-left:.25in'>High school redesign with the new
state requirements is a topic – how to do it schedulewise- looking at the
possibilities. <o:p></o:p></p>
<ul style='margin-top:0in' type=disc>
<li class=MsoNormal style='mso-list:l0 level1 lfo2'>October 5 is the Lawsuit
hearing at 1:30 at the County Courthouse.<o:p></o:p></li>
<li class=MsoNormal style='mso-list:l0 level1 lfo2'>7<sup>th</sup> grade
council elections are October 19<o:p></o:p></li>
<li class=MsoNormal style='mso-list:l0 level1 lfo2'>Mountain Man presentation
for the 8<sup>th</sup> graders will take place October 11 during 1<sup>st</sup>
period, and parents are welcome to attend. (Dale will include this in his
newsletter.)<o:p></o:p></li>
<li class=MsoNormal style='mso-list:l0 level1 lfo2'>Halloween- Students can
choose to have costumes that are not disruptive and don’t cover
their faces.<o:p></o:p></li>

will include information, which has been sent before, re: having children
at your house and at other homes<o:p></o:p></li>

beginning of the school year, Dale hasn’t had enough time to deal
with it fully. Julie Ketchum has a catalog with a potential company,
and Faye Nagler will contact her. Carolyn Birmingham will look into

celebrate the end of ISAT testing and the numerous sports events happening
this week.<o:p></o:p></li>

from 3:30 – 6:30. There has been a significant increase in DJ
costs.<o:p></o:p></li>
<li class=MsoNormal style='mso-list:l2 level1 lfo3'>Canned Food Drive November
12 – 16.<o:p></o:p></li>
<li class=MsoNormal style='mso-list:l2 level1 lfo3'>Toy Drive in
December. <o:p></o:p></li>

for the 7<sup>th</sup> Grade Council election. There will be reps
from both teams. Students can sign up to run. They need to
collect signatures and have platforms.<o:p></o:p></li>

<p class=MsoNormal><b><u>Guest Speaker – Gail Silkwood, Latah Youth
Advocacy Council</u></b> – introduced by Erin McCall, who is a
member. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>The Latah Youth Advocacy Council is a subbranch of the
county Commission in its 3<sup>rd</sup> year of funding (funding lasts 5
years). It is a county resource for drug and alcohol prevention for
junior and senior high students with some elementary support. There are
substance abuse and mental health programs. They supply funding for
activities, especially during “at risk” times when parents are not
at home. They are also starting programs in the rural county.
Charlie Gerke is an active member. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal> <b>There is an upcoming fundraising event on October
13 from 6:30-11 pm at the University Inn - $30/person with music by Beargrass

Lisa attends representing the junior high (Others are welcome to attend as
well.) Dr. Bechinksi sent out a response about what happens during the
3-day period when the students are off. ISAT results were also
discussed. Moscow is the only big district that passed. The
strategic plan has been updated.<o:p></o:p></p>
