Dear Parents,
I apologize for the date error in this Principal's Letter. That is what
I get for writing and sending the letter in the evening without having
it proofed by another set of eyes. Thank you to those of you who
already caught the error and replied. I am thankful that people read
this letter.
It is important to know that we come back to school after spring break
on Monday, March 22. The 8th grade parent night is also Monday, March
22 beginning at 7:00 in the Multi-Purpose Room. Sorry for cluttering up
your inboxes. Please delete the email I sent last night. Have a great
day! Dale

Dear Parents,
As I write this, I am listening to baseballs hitting bats and tennis
balls hitting rackets on the MJHS campus. This is a significant
statement because I can't remember a time in my career at MJHS when we
have been able to be on our fields so early in the spring. Last year we
barely got to play on our baseball field during the spring season
because of snow and incredibly wet weather. Because of the early start,
there is plenty of interest in spring sports. At the bottom of this
letter you will see important information about the 7th and 8th grade
Track program. You can also see additional start times for all of our
spring activities at www.highschoolsports.net
<http://www.highschoolsports.net/> . We hope your son or daughter is
able to take part in some of the outstanding activities that we offer.
During this week and next week our annual "Pennies For Leukemia"
fundraiser takes place. We have multiple contests throughout the school
to raise as much as possible for this worthy cause. It is one of three
fundraisers that our school participates in, and we have always been the
top fundraiser in the Northwest Region. Last year we raised over
$4000.00. All funds raised go to the Leukemia Foundation. We do not
sanction door to door fundraising and hope that you can spare some
change from your piggy banks for this activity. Checks are welcome and
should be written to "Leukemia Foundation".
Spring break is just around the corner with the last day of school on
Friday, March 12. Over the years during long breaks some of our
students have gotten into mischief unless supervised. I have posted a
"Parent Guide" at the Principal's Page on the MJHS website. I hope it
has some ideas to help you support your son or daughter's free time. I
know they don't want us watching over them, but they need us now more
than ever.
School starts up after Spring Break on Monday, March 22. That same
evening, our eighth grade students and their parents are invited to
their ninth grade orientation. The event is planned to give important
information about high school requirements and is especially important
for all students in the class of 2014. Many guidelines have been
recently adopted by the Idaho State Department of Education and we will
be explaining all of the changes as they relate to students who will be
graduating from Moscow High School. We will meet in the Multi-Purpose
Room at 7:00 p.m., and the program usually lasts about one hour.
The end of the third quarter is also rapidly approaching. The final day
of the quarter is April 1, with April 2 being a no school day and a work
and grading day for teachers. Please check PowerSchool often to keep up
on grades and progress. As soon as the third quarter starts, we will
be starting our annual round of Idaho Standards Achievement Tests.
During April we will be giving over 2000 different tests, all on the
computer. It is a busy month and we recommend great attendance all the
time, but especially during our ISAT testing window (Apr. 12-23). Also
during that time we will be on a special testing schedule that will give
students ample time to complete their assessments without being rushed.
As always, please contact us anytime if you have questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Dale Kleinert, Principal
Moscow Junior High School
MJHS 7th & 8th Track

Required paperwork: (ALL paperwork must be in before athlete can
participate):
* A doctor's physical is required. Physicals are good for two
years if they are done in 7th, 9th, and 11th grades. If an athlete has
already participated in a Moscow junior high sport this year s/he does
not need another physical nor does one need to be turned in.
* The following forms need to be turned in if the student has not
yet participated in a Junior High sport this school year.
* Substance Abuse form must be signed by parent and athlete along
with the Athletic Insurance and Interim Questionnaire
* These forms can be found on the district web site
www.msd281.org <http://www.msd281.org/> or picked up in the junior high
office.
* Athletes must also have a current print out of their grades
from power school. Altered grade reports will be cause for dismissal
from the sport/activity.
* Please write neatly so the names can be easily identifiable.
Required Fees:
* There is a onetime a year fee of $25 (payable to Moscow Junior
High in the office) for an ASB card
* There is an "Athletic Fee" that is required for each sport the
athlete participates in and that is $35 for junior high sports and
$60.00 for JV/Varsity sports (payable to Moscow School District) but
must be turned into the coach not the office)
* Fees must be paid during the first week of practice (3/22/10)
* Once the athlete starts the sport the fee in non-refundable

* Academics are our number one concern

grades to the first practice (or turn in with other paperwork). Altered
grade reports will be cause for dismissal from the sport/activity.
* Athletes are expected to be at each and every practice as long
as they were in school.
* From page #6 in the student handbook "A student who is absent
at anytime during the day may not participate in an activity that same
day, unless the absence was due to a medical appointment or emergency
that does not reflect illness."
* Homework - Student athletes need to make every possible effort
to communicate with their teachers when they are absent for a sporting
event.
Equipment:
* Athletes need to have an athletic type shoe for practice (they
do not have to be new)
* They must also have athletic type shirt and shorts (no cargo
shorts or denim jeans)
