Dear Parents and Caregivers

We need your help. Over the last 3 yrs we have been working with the School District and the City on Safe Routes to School (SRTS). This relationship has been successful in enabling us to gain funding for developing safe sidewalks and bike paths around Lena Whitmore elementary, the Junior High School and towards McDonald elementary schools. We have provided vests and safety equipment for crossing guards and developed maps for SRTS. We have also increased the number of children and youth walking and biking to schools through our events, provided bike education to all 4th graders, and gained parent perceptions about SRTS.
In order to pursue further funding from the state SRTS organization, each school in the district needs to establish a SRTS committee of 2-3 or more people that will help us develop a plan for SRTS needs at their own school as well as their neighboring areas. Some of you have already expressed your interest to participate and we thank you for your time and help, however we need to make sure each school gets their SRTS committee started in the next month so we can pursue funding in March. With continued funding we can improve more sidewalks and bike paths.
We invite you to a district wide SRTS meeting on February 9th at 4:00 p.m., at Moscow Junior High School in the music room. We urge you to come and represent your school and get started on your school plan. If you cannot attend this meeting and want to participate please let us know and we will put you in touch with your committee. We look forward to seeing you.
