Dear Parents, 

 

Our third quarter is rapidly drawing to a close and the last day of the
quarter is April 2.   There will be no school on April 3, and report
cards should be in the mail by April 9.  Please contact us if you don't
receive a report card by April 13.  

 

If you are a ninth grade parent, you may have heard about the "Ninth
Grade Dance".  This annual event is scheduled for April 3rd, and will
take place in the MJHS Multi-Purpose Room from 7:00 until 10:00 p.m.
Attire for this dance is dress-up, not formal.  MJHS does not endorse
tuxedo and formal rentals, or other activities such as expensive
dinners, limo rentals, or other activities that are inappropriate at
this age level.  Students who intended to invite a guest should have
filled out a form and turned it in to the office by last Friday.  If you
have questions, or would like to chaperone, please call Assistant
Principal Kevin Hill.

 

Our registration process for next year's classes is well under way.
Counselors have been in 8th and 9th grade Science classrooms helping
students understand the process.  The 7th graders will begin their
process this week in Science classrooms.  Following the orientation in
classes, students will bring home the registration packet so you can
assist your son or daughter with class choices.  Students will not be
able to turn in their registration packets without a parent signature.
Please be aware of the deadlines that are posted on the packets.

 

Our Idaho Standards Achievement Test (ISAT) process begins on April 13
and ends two weeks later on April 24.  All 7th and 8th grade students
will be taking the ISAT sometime during the testing window.  With 400
students taking the tests at MJHS, we will give about 1400 different
test batteries, all on computers during the testing window.  It is a
huge and complicated task that we take very seriously.  At this time, we
are finalizing schedules, making sure that our four computer labs are up
to the task, and ensuring that all students are ready.   

 

For a portion of the ISAT testing session, students will be utilizing a
special test schedule from April 13-20 to give optimum time for success
on each test.  The schedule is defined as a modified A/B block schedule
with classes alternating each day as follows:  A Day:  periods
1-2-3-4/5.  B Day: periods 1-6-7-8.  Period one will meet each day and
the other classes will alternate each day throughout the first six days
of the testing period.  4/5 is noted as such because students either
have 4th or 5th period, but not both.  The entire two week schedule is
posted on the MJHS website and is titled, "Spring 2009 ISAT schedule". 

 

As always, MJHS is a very busy place.  If you feel like something is
missing or your questions aren't being answered, please contact me at
any time.  We plan to send our quarterly Cub Communicator newsletter
with Report Cards next week and it will have additional school
activities and ISAT information.  In addition, the Parent Portal is
available to students and parents at all times.  We hope you are able to
take advantage of this academic progress monitoring tool.
