Dear Parents,

October has been a busy month for parents and students. Thanks to Aleisa
Barber and all those parents who volunteered with treats on teacher
appreciation day, and thanks to Wendy Bolles and all those parents helping
with the mock election. Here's what's coming up. The minutes for the
October meeting also appear below.

Discussion of High School redesign at Moscow School board meeting October
28, 2008

The Board of Trustees of Moscow School District extends an invitation to
parents and interested community members to an opportunity to give comments
and input to the Board at their October 28, 2008 regular Board meeting
concerning the High School Redesign/Schedule. The meeting begins at 7 PM in
the Music Room of Moscow Junior High School, 1410 East D Street. The agenda
for the meeting will be posted no later than Friday, October 24, on the
District's Web site: www.sd281.k12.id.us under the Trustee's section.

i2i Facilators

Our ninth graders will be participating in a one-day program, entitled
"i2i," which is intended to encourage communication between kids and
families to build safe, healthy and substance-free communities on October
30, 2008. There is an opportunity for 10 to 12 interested parents to
participate in the i2i program with the students on October 30. Parents
would need to be willing to commit to being there (MJHS Field house) from
8:30-3:00 and to participate in the activities and discussions on an "equal
level" with the students. Contact Charlie Gerke at gerkec at sd281.k12.id.us
for more information.

Next Parent Group Meeting November 4th at 7:15 a.m. in room 216.

Hope to see you there! We'll be discussing plans for a parent night and
t-shirt sales.

Thanks for your attention. Remember to vote!

Meeting Minutes

October 7, 2008

Principal's Report

*	Directory is now out - lots of volunteer help made this possible
*	First month of school went very smoothly. With no ISATS, teachers
were able to provide uninterrupted teaching time. Also more time for
overall planning.
*	Need to show the state there the school has a plan in place to show
Adequate Yearly Progress with special education students in Math/English
with an intervention plan. There is a school improvement team to respond to
this.

Training last week on intervention - assess and monitor progress and how the
school can do better with low and high end students. This RTI
(Response-to-Intervention) Program works better at the elementary level
where teachers have the students all day.

*	Deficiency reports coming out today.

*	Make-up photos today.
*	This week is the beginning of the process for 7th grade elections.
Election petitions go out - Interested 7th graders write a statement and
platform and signatures. Platforms will be posted throughout the building.
The election takes place October 17.
*	Mock elections in the library October 22.

Report from District: Lisa Morris

On October 13 there will be an informational meeting at the high school re:
high School Redesign. It is important to come to get the information and to
give input. The decision will occur at the November meeting. The current
recommendation is for the bell schedule not to change and to reduce the
social studies requirement to adjust for the increased science/math state
requirements. There was a discussion about adding another floater period,
but that would mean time per class would have to be reduced.

The overall school district budget is fine at this point in time.

Financial Report: Peggy Jenkins - at this point, there is still 0 balance
after the project in the Teachers' lounge. Cash outlay happened early this
year. Last year was also very expensive with the curtains purchase.
However, t-shirt proceeds and boxtop funds are expected.

Assistant Principal's Report: Dance November 9.

Library Data base presentation: on September 24 - for parents - how to
access the data base. The presentation was excellent with both parents and
students in attendance. Pat Stewart has put together a good website.

Teacher Appreciation Event- Aleisha Barber - Aleisha put notes in teachers'
boxes after the Parent Night. Monday, October 13 - treats in the Teachers'
Lounge. Need volunteers to provide treats.

Mock Election October 22- Wendy Bolls- Because so many elections take
place in libraries, Pat Stewart offered to host the election. Won't need
volunteers for the set-up, but will need 2-3 volunteers for the break-down.
Also need one volunteer per hour (?)

Student Council and ambassadors will be helping as well.

T-Shirt Contest - Susan Mahoney (and Vicki Celebrezze). There will be a
contest to design the logo. Many students turned in entries last year.

Boxtops- Faye Nagler will head this up again.

Parent Night Proposal - Charlie Gerke - October 30 i2i (Eye to Eye) team
building with the 9th Graders (Conference Day for the 7th and 8th graders).
The more connected kids are to school and community and to each other, the
less apt they are to get into negative behaviors.

Follow-up Parent Night - "Dinner's on Us"- school resource office and panel
about how underage drinking affect kids and open forum. The evening would
be open to students.

Time possibilities are a Tuesday or Wednesday night before Thanksgiving.
