Hi Parents!
Looks like fall is finally here. Brrr! Makes me a little homesick for
Hawaii...
Here's the latest news from the PST:
1. Teacher Appreciation Event Monday October 13th. On Monday October
13th we'll be hosting our first Teacher Appreciation Event of the school
year. We are asking parents to bring baked goodies and other treats for our
teachers to snack on during the day. Please bring your offering to teacher
work room on Monday between 8:00 and 8:30 am. There will be other
opportunities to show your support later in the year. If you have any
questions, please email peggy at jenkinsresearch.com.
2. Important School District Meeting on Graduation Requirements. Last
Monday you should have received an email about an important meeting that
will be held at Moscow Senior High School Commons Monday night. The meeting
will be convened by the Moscow School Board, which is seeking parent input
on changes to our students' graduation requirements. The Moscow School
District will have to change its requirements to incorporate the State's
heightened requirements for math and science credits. The changes will have
a direct impact on students in 8th grade and below (and may indirectly
impact on the course offerings available to our 9th graders as well).
Dinner and refreshments will be provided from 6:30 to 7:30 pm; the meeting
will begin at 7:30 p.m. Please attend at let your voice be heard.
3. Mock Elections. Moscow's League of Women Voters is looking for
parent volunteers to help with the 2008 Mock Election at MJHS. This
election, which provides a realistic voting experience for students, will be
held Wednesday, October 22, 8:15 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., at the MJHS Library.
Most parent volunteers will work as "poll watchers," helping the students
through the voting process and assisting the League volunteers. This is a
great opportunity to encourage student involvement in the democratic
process. Many of the students who participate in this year's mock election
will be old enough to vote in the 2012 Presidential Elections.
3.
There are three shifts available for parent volunteers on October 22d:
8:15 - 10:30
10:30 - 12:30
12:30 - 3:00 or 3:30
We may need a few parents to help take down the polls and clean-up the
library.
3:00 - 3:30
Please email Wendy Bolles at wsb at moscow.com if you are interested in helping
with the Mock Elections. If you are interested, but can only work a partial
shift, please let me know.
This should be a fun and important way to be involved with MJHS and to
encourage future voters. Thanks in advance for your help.
Thanks as always for your attention. Stay warm!
Peggy Jenkins
