Dear Parents,

This has been such an active second semester I hardly know where to
start. We have had so many things happen since the holiday break and
the activities are a blur. The weather took front stage for the month
of January, and the start of February came in like a lion and made
January seem like a walk in the park! Let's hope it goes out like a
lamb and we can enjoy some early days of spring.

As you know by now, we have adjusted the school calendar to account for
some of the days that we missed. One of our make-up days happened this
past Friday and we will make up two more on May 1 and 2. All three of
the make-up days were originally scheduled as staff curriculum and
school improvement days. Our staff members are also spending additional
time on curriculum development, school planning, etc., to make up for
the time we missed.

The result of recent litigation has enabled us to restore some of our
staffing that was cut at the start of this school year. We are
dedicated to small class sizes and remediation for at-risk students, and
our staffing restoration focused on those priorities. Some minor
adjustments are being made at this time and you will be notified if your
son or daughter gets a schedule adjustment which requires a teacher
change in order to reduce and balance class sizes. If you believe your
son or daughter might benefit from a remediation class such as
"Tutorial" please contact one of our counselors.

We just finished our annual "Pennies For Leukemia" community service
fund drive. The initial count tallies in the $2,800.00 range. We are
always gratified by the caring attitude that our students show during
this project. Mr. Hill and the Student Council spent most of the day on
Friday rolling coinage and we would like to thank them for their
efforts. It was quite the project!

We would also like to thank those parents who helped sort and count Box
Tops Friday afternoon. The Parent Support Team is turning in 2,341 Box
Tops and will receive a check later this spring for $234.10. That's
about 200 more Box Tops than last year. We will continue with this easy
fundraiser, so please continue saving Box Tops. More information about
how to be involved will be sent via the Parent Support Team
periodically.

Jazz Festival begins this week and is always a big event in the Moscow
School system. Our district facilities turn into multiple hotels for
visiting schools, our buildings are used as performance sites, and this
year almost 200 of our own students will perform during the week, with
Wednesday earmarked as "middle level day".

Communication with parents is a priority for us and if you have moved or
have had an address change since the beginning of the school year,
please let the office know. This will ensure MJHS mailings reach you.

In addition, MJHS is finishing up its "Evidence Based School Evaluation"
for our accreditation. A random sample of parents will soon receive a
request to complete a survey to help us evaluate our programming. Your
opinion and attitudes are of vital importance to this assessment, and we
hope you can complete the survey for us.

As always, it is fantastic seeing and working with your kids each day.
We missed them during the Snow Days and we're starting to get back into
a routine. Thank you for your continued support of our school and its
programs.

Sincerely,

Dale Kleinert, Principal

Moscow Junior High School
