**For those of you who were unable to attend our February MJHS parent 
meeting, here are the minutes.

*MJHS PST Minutes for February 2006*

Susan Mahoney, our MJHS Parent Support Team representative for 
2005-2006, led our February parent group meeting.  Mary Jo Van Gerpen 
recorded the minutes.

_The following were in attendance: _  Susan Mahoney, Marie Charles, Mary 
Jo Van Gerpen, Anne Peterson, Sandy Gibson, Carolyn Birmingham, Glenn 
Segota, Penni Cyr, Ingrid Spence, Desiree Jacobson, and Dale Kleinert.

*_Facilities Task Force Update _*  Desiree Jacobson reported that the 
three remaining options would be the ones considered in a survey that 
will be going out soon.

_Option 1_:  Remodel of West Park and Russell Elementary Schools so each 
has two sections foe each grade K - 6.  Build a new facility for 
Paradise Creek Regional Alternative High School (PCRHS).  The cost 
estimates are as follows:

            Russell remodel                            $6.4 M

            West Park remodel                      $6.7 M

_            New PCRHS                                 $2.8 M_

            Total                                             $15.9 M

_Option 2_:  Construct a new, four-section-per-grade, K-6 school on 
district-owned land on Joseph Street.  Remodel either Russell or West 
Park for use by PCRHS.  Sell or re-purpose either the Russell or West 
Park building not used by PCRHS.  The cost estimates are as follows:

            New construction                        $11.6 M

_            Remodel                                        $1.7 M_

            Total                                             $13.3 M

_Option 3_:  Remodel West Park with two sections for each grade level 
K-6, build a new elementary school on Joseph Street with classrooms for 
two sections per grade K-6, and core spaces (cafeteria, multipurpose 
room, etc) for three sections for each grade.  Remodel Russell for 
PCRHS.  The cost estimates are as follows:

            Remodel West Park                     $6.7 M

            New Construction                         $9.0 M

_            Remodel Russell for PCRHS      $1.7 M_

            Total                                             $17.4 M

Remodeling the science classrooms at the high school  is also being 
considered..

*_February 1st Family Night Report_*_  _ About fifty people (adults and 
students) attended this Interactive Safety Program.  Pizza, salad, and 
ice cream were served during the course of the evening. Other than the 
program might have gotten a little long for the students that were in 
the computer labs doing the interactive safety workshop, the response 
was good.

*_Principal's Report_* - Dale Kleinert discussed the school calendar.

High School Auditorium.  For current 9th graders and their parents. 

*9^th Grade Orientation: Monday, March 27, at **7 p.m.* at the Junior 
High Multipurpose Room. For current 8^th graders and their parents.

*_Student Directory:_** *Susan will discuss with Dale the possibility of 
having parents at the orientation meetings sign up to be in a student 
directory for next year, if they so choose.  Having a student directory 
is something that has been considered for several years.

*_Penny Tax Initiative Presentation_*_ _ Penny Cyr and Ingrid Spence 
from the Moscow Education Association spoke about the Idaho Education 
Association's  tax initiative to raise the sales tax 1% by July 1, 
2007.  If the initiative goes through it will go on the ballot to be 
voted upon next November.  The Idaho Local Public Schools Investment Act 
will increase K-12 public school funding with 1% added back to the state 
sales tax with the increase going only to public school funding.  It is 
estimated that this would add around 1.4 million extra dollars for 
Moscow schools.  Petitions with signatures are presently being 
circulated.  48,000 signatures are being sought by November 1st and will 
be presented to the Attorney General.**

*_February Staff Appreciation Event_*_  _Sandy Gibson is coordinating a 
breakfast for the teachers to take place at 7:15 on February 15 and will 
be sending an e-mail enlisting help from the parents to bring different 
items for the breakfast. 

The next MJHS Parent Meeting will be March 7 at 7:15 in Room 201.
