Financial Report & Fund Raising for Family Night

Currently there is $389.33 in the budget. A letter
was sent to Greg Papineau of Papineau Insurance and he
agreed to sponsor our February 8 Family Night by
donating $200. Susan Mahoney agreed to make posters
for around the MPR publicizing family night and
giving recognition to Papineau for his sponsorship.
Erin will have a family fun basket raffle worth $50
filled with movies and movie candy. The cost of the
raffle ticket will be $1.00. There will also be
prizes for adults from Casa Lopez, Massage School, and
Inter-State Aviation. The prizes for kids will be
from Arby's, Pizza Hut, Pretzel Maker, Orange Julius,
Baskin Robbins, Wendy's, and Dollar Tree. Tammy will
be in charge of the drinks from McDonalds and ordering
the pizza from Pizza Perfection. Mary Jo will bring
the tossed salad. Dale will be coordinating some
teachers to help out with keeping kids busy while the
parents are at the meeting. The older kids can watch
the wrestling match also taking place.

The family night will be from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m.
starting out with the fatal vision goggle
demonstration. Marie Miller, DARE and Charlie Gerke,
MSD Drug Free Coordinator will be presenting the
program. Dale will e-mail notices out today about the
family night requesting RSVP by next Monday, February
7. Notices will also come out with the report cards.

Dale announced that he had gotten a letter from Triad
News Publishing which offered grant money for our
Parent Support Team family night meetings. This may
be helpful for in the future.

Upcoming School Events

February is a busy month. The First Winter Assembly
is on Thursday, February 3, at 10 in which student
awards will be given. Parents are welcome. There
will be a locker check on February 17; the purpose is
to find overdue library books. On February 17 is the
Winter School Dance at 7 p.m. Chaperones are still
needed. The Insomnia IDFY Ski Trip to Canada is
scheduled for the 18-20. There is no school on the
18th and 21st. Many jazz related activities will be
taking place the last week of February.

Facilities Update - Larry Verdal

Larry expressed the need for parental support
behind the most desired track so the public at large
can be educated appropriately. The MSD
Facilities Planning Committee will be conducting a
public forum on Thursday, February 10, from 7 to 9 in
the MPR of Moscow Junior High. The Board of Trustees
will also be in attendance. The purpose of the
meeting is to take input regarding what needs to be
done to improve the facilities of the Moscow School
District. We will pass out pink flyers at our family
night to notify people of the forum. Larry noted that
people with a negative response to the different plans
will also be present at the forum. By February 7, 400
phone surveys will have been conducted to find out
which track people are most interested. The new grade
configurations if a new high school and elementary are
built have been recommended by the Superintendent to be
1-5, 6-8, and 9-12.

For the 6-8configuration to take place, more space
will be needed
for specific 6th grade programs and also for
computers. Two other important meetings to attend are
the February School Board meeting on Tuesday, February
22, at 7:00 p.m., in the JH music room. On Thursday,
February 24, a special School Board meeting will be
held to make a final decision regarding the scope and
costs of a facilities bond measure to be considered on
April 26. This meeting will also be in the music room
at 7:00 p.m.

Tammy wondered whether there was anything our group
could do to get a consolidated and strong voice across
to the public at large. Virginia Elliott from the
parent support group at the high school will be
meeting with Tammy at Applebee's on Wednesday,
February 2, at 1:00. Susan Mahoney also volunteered
to attend.

Next Meeting

The next Moscow Junior High Parent Support Team
meeting will be on Tuesday, March 1st, at 7:15 a.m. in
the conference room off the main office.

The mission of the MJHS Parent Support Team is to
promote and enhance the well being and educational
experience of our children by coordinating and
promoting parental involvement and providing support
for teachers, staff, and volunteers.
