Closed circuit to parents -- This morning, MJHS participated in a =
building lock-down drill. We were on our homeroom time schedule and let =
students and teachers know about the drill, in advance. After we locked =
all rooms down, we utilized our telephone paging feature and directed =
clusters of rooms to evacuate to designated areas. From all accounts, =
our students followed instructions and moved calmly to the new location. =
Our office staff, our superintendent and Moscow PD observers were =
impressed with the responsiveness of students and staff. Once we had =
all students accounted for, we had everyone return to class to resume =
the rest of the day's schedule.
As you might visit with your son or daughter over the day's drill, we =
would be interested in hearing about any significant "glitches", =
concerns and/or suggestions from the students' point of view. We've =
also asked for their input through a special bulletin, which was read =
following the drill. I have asked staff memebers to provide their =
comments, also, so our protocol can be as smooth as possible. Some =
parents will remember that we locked down the school for 20 minutes, two =
years ago, when we had a police situation at a neighboring home. Our =
students and staff responded in an appropriate fashion. =20
We believe that our preparation and practice will help us to be ready, =
if and when an emergency situation might develop.

Moscow Junior High School
