MJHS Parent Support Team Minutes

November 2, 2004

The following parents attended the Parent Support Team meeting; Tammy
Summers, Deb Barlett, Lisa Morris, Susan Mahoney, Erin McCall, Mary Jo
Van Gerpen, Evan Holmes, Dennis Niehenke,  Dale Kleinert, and Larry
Verdal.

Judo Club. =20

Eddie Commender, from the U. of I.  told of opportunities for joining a
community Judo Club.  He and his wife are instructors.  Right now the
Judo Club meets at Kibbie Dome.   A brochure is posted on the community
board near the office.

Financial Status. =20

We have $448 for this year.  We can no longer count on money from the
School Board or from trusts so we will need to raise money this year for
next year's family nights.  It costs $120/family night and we plan on
having three a year.  We discussed ideas on raising money.  Our main
idea was to have people buy raffle tickets to pay for a family's
entertainment--say a movie night.

Family Night November 16. =20

Tom Barnett from MPD has agreed to give the program on Internet
Security.  Several of us will try to be there at 5:30 help set up.  6:00
is starting time.  The menu is pizza from Pizza Perfection, orange drink
from McDonalds, and tossed salad.  We will plan on people having two
slices of pizza and there will be a donation box.  In the report cards
we will have a flyer about the Family Night and have a section for
signing up for pizza for people planning to attend.  Dale said there
were adequate supplies of plates, plasticware, and napkins.   The orange
drink has been ordererd from McDonalds.=20

We will need to give McDonalds a $35 deposit which they will give back
when we return the big container. Mary Jo will mixup the salad.

Prizes for Family Night

Tammy has purchased prizes from various places.  She purchased two $20
gift certificates from Casa Lopez, one for this year and one for next.
She has a School of Massage gift certificate from Lisa O'Leary; she has
one free flying lesson from Lisa Gadwa of General Aviation; she has
certificates from Arby's, Pizza Hut, Pretzel Maker, Orange Julius, and
Baskin Robbins. She has gotten backpacks, calculators, pens, and
coloring books from the Dollar Tree.  Zips and Wendy's needed letters in
advance for getting complementary certificates from them.=20

Upcoming School Events. =20

At our December support team meeting we will discuss who we could get to
sponsor a family night.  For publicity we could promote having a special
raffle.  This raffle could then pay for a future family night.  This
raffle could be for a special family activity such as bowling, or ice
skating.

List Serve Update. =20

Next year we should have a place in the registration packet for signing
up for the List Serve Update.  Then we would be assured of not missing
anybody. =20

Facilities Update. =20

Larry Verdal visited the latter part of our meeting and gave us an
update.  Every Monday evening the school district has a facilities
meeting from 7-9:30 at the University Incubator Conference Room.  Patron
input is welcome.  Meeting notes are printed on the district website.
On April 26 there will be a bond election.  The amount of the bond and
the nature of the project are still being worked out.  It has to go to
the County Commissioners for it to be put up for a tax levy.  In January
a telephone survey will be done with the results compiled by February.
We are just finishing up paying off the present bond and the next one
would be phased in over the next 25 years should a levy pass.  In the
next few months they will be gathering input on what the options will
be.

School Service Projects for Next Year. =20

One project is lockers or baskets for the Boys P.E. Locker Room.=20

Baskets are less expensive but the framework will be costly.  Another
school project is replacing the striped orange and blue shades on all
the windows of the school.  There are about 590 windows.  Vendors should
be contacted to get quotes.

Next MJHS Support Team Meeting. =20

The next meeting will be Tuesday, December 7th, 2004 at 7:00 a.m. in
Room 201.
