[RPPTL ISC] Update & Announcements

Good Evening, ISC Members! I hope your summer is going well. Of course, I have exciting updates to share, but first, please accept my apologizes for being incommunicado for a little bit. But…I’m back, we’re back, and the 2023-2024 RPPTL year just kicked off on July 1!

  *   First, a HUGE THANK YOU to Katie Heckert for her service to and leadership of ISC. Katie has been an active member of ISC and CLC for many years, and I look forward to seeing her at future events and her continued friendship and support of ISC.

  *   Next, Please WELCOME ISC’s newest co-chair, Adele Stone, and vice-chair, Anne Pollock!  They know everyone and everyone knows them! I am looking forward to learning a ton, and I am already very grateful for their enthusiasm.

  *   RPPTL’s Executive Council Committee Meeting is July 20-22 at the Breakers!
     *   Please join us (in-person or by zoom) for our next ISC meeting at 8AM on Thursday, 7/20. This will be a joint meeting with the Construction Law Committee (see agenda attached) with a very very insurance focused CLE presentation.
     *   CLE Topic: Tort Reform: Elimination of One-Way Attorney’s Fee Provision and Creative Strategies for Recovering Fees in Coverage Actions
        *   Presented by Joe Thacker and Wes Lambert (Shumaker Loop & Kendrick)

  *   Insurance Coverage Board Certification Update:
     *   Thanks to Cary Wright’s efforts and Scott Pence’s help, this is finally on the agenda for the 7/22 Executive Council meeting. During that meeting, I will be asking for RPPTL’s endorsement for ISC’s efforts for the formation of the Insurance Coverage Law board certification. If you’ll recall, part of the application process includes obtaining letters of support from other FL Bar sections and committees as well as from other organizations. After the 7/22 vote, I will update everyone. If you are at the Breakers, please find me. My cell is 239-248-6314.

     *   FYI - Texas just created its “Insurance Law” board cert. Check it out here: Texas Board of Legal Specialization (tbls.org)<https://www.tbls.org/specialtyarea/IL>

     *   E-Petitions: We have 197 signed E-Petitions! Great, but still short of our 250 goal!

           *   It takes less than 5 minutes to complete. Also, please do not use Autofill to complete the E-Petition.

     *   Anticipated Schedule:
        *   Aug-Nov 2023:        Continue obtaining additional letters of support (I am working on this but could use some help here! Don’t worry, I will email

subcommittee members directly on this! HA!)

        *   December 2023:     Finalize and submit application/proposal packet (if not sooner)

  *   Upcoming ISC Membership Meetings: By Zoom at 12:00 PM on the 3rd Monday of each month (if not a legal holiday). The Zoom link will be provided with the Agenda, about a week or so before each meeting.
