For today's call, I will be primarily covering an important case - with
potentially expansive implications on a national, industry wide scale
- *Salinas
v. Commercial Interiors, Inc.*, 848 F. 3d 125 (4th Cir. January 25, 2017).
This case dramatically expands the definition of employer under the Fair
Labor Standards Act ("FLSA") that potentially encompasses most
contractor-subcontractor relationships, and thereby hoisting joint and
several liability onto the contractor for any violations of the FLSA by a
subcontractor.  If there is time at the end of my discussion of this case,
then we will also potentially cover *Barton v. Capitol Preferred Insurance
Comp., Inc.*, Case No. 5D15-1587 (Fla. 5th DCA December 9, 2016)
(perfecting an insurance bad faith claim); and International Fidelity
Insurance Comp. v. Americaribe-Moriarty JV, No. 16-14861 (11th Cir.
February 28, 2017) (properly complying with a bond's notice requirements).
