Subject: [Liability Insurance] Florida Bar RPPTL Insurance & Surety Committee Conference Call - Monday, August 11, 2015
Everyone:
I hope you are having a wonderful summer!
Attached are the following: (1) Agenda for the monthly call scheduled for Monday, August 17, 2015, beginning at noon; (2) Minutes from the July 20, 2015 conference call; (3) PowerPoint slides for Monday's CLE Presentation; and (4) a copy of the current Insurance Matters!
Our speaker for Monday's presentation will be Robert H. Friedman of his firm, Friedman, P.A. in Palm Beach, Florida. Before starting his own firm in 2011, Rob served as head of the Insurance Coverage Practice at Gunster in West Palm Beach, where he founded the firm's insurance practice in 2006. Before joining Gunster, Rob worked for seven years in the Insurance Coverage group of Dickstein Shapiro LLP in New York. Mr. Friedman graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School and at the top of his class at Cornell University. He is a member of the Florida and New York Bars.
Rob's presentation is titled: "Interpreting Insurance Policies: Rules of Construction." The presentation will cover the key rules of insurance policy interpretation, including the plain meaning rule, ejusdem generis, contra proferentem, and the use of parole evidence. It will address the different approaches judges take to identifying and resolving ambiguities in insurance policies, and will focus on Florida case law that forms the basis for these rules.
The conference call information is: dial-in: 888-376-5050; Participant Code: 842 548 4201#; Moderator Code: 13137# (Moderator does not input the Participant Code).

Cary
