Everyone:
This is a reminder that the Insurance & Surety Committee's normal monthly call on Monday, November 18th has been rescheduled to 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 22, 2013, to coincide with the Executive Council meeting in Sarasota. We invite everyone to attend the Executive Council meeting in person if you are able. If not, the dial-in information and Committee Schedules are attached and the webinar information is below.
As reflected in my prior email, we are having a joint meeting with the Residential Real Estate & Industry Liaison Committee regarding the Biggert Waters Flood Insurance Act, and the impact it has had on insurance premiums and the real estate market. The presentations will be a very relevant for anyone with clients or property along the coast or rivers, so if you are in the area, please make every attempt to attend in person - it is a great way to get involved in the Section and to see how the Executive Council works. There are also many other committee meetings you can attend as reflected on the attached Committee Schedule.
Information regarding the CLE presentation is below.
Title:
The Storm Brewing Over Flood Insurance Premiums - Changes to the National Flood Insurance Program by the Biggert-Waters Flood Insurance Reform Act of 2012 and the Impact to You and Your Clients.
A Joint-Committee Seminar presented by the Insurance and Surety Committee and the Residential Real Estate & Industry Liaison Committee.
Date/Time:
Friday, November 22, 2013, 8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.
Speakers:
Christopher W. Heidrick - Principal of Heidrick & Company Insurance and Risk Management Services.
Brad G. Loar - Director, Mitigation Division, FEMA Region IV (Atlanta, GA).

Mr. Heidrick will provide an overview of the Biggert-Waters Flood Insurance Reform Act of 2012 ("BW-12"), discussing how it became law, the most significant provisions under BW-12 and the key dates you should be aware of. He also will provide his insight from a risk management perspective of the overall impact of BW-12. Finally, he will discuss recently proposed legislation that could delay the implementation of BW-12.
Mr. Loar will discuss a brief history of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) that the agency manages, including the mapping, insurance and regulatory components. Additionally, he also will provide his insight from FEMA's perspective on the overall impact of BW-12.
