Correct, it’s posted on the Property. It will provide 24 hours to vacate, at which time the sheriff will come back to make sure he has vacated. Since the son is in jail, you can proceed with changing the locks once the 24 hours has passed.

I am handling an unlawful detainer action for elderly parents who want their adult son removed from the home. The day before I filed the Petition the son was arrested on a DUI and is being held in the Sumter County Detention Center. (He has a criminal record so this DUI is a 3rd degree felony and he should be serving some time in jail, once this gets adjudicated.) I had the Sheriff serve the Petition on him at the detention center.
My question - Where do I serve the Writ of Possession? Do I serve him at the detention center and/or post it on the house? If posted, how long must it stay up? Thanks for your help on this. Arlene
