SELKIRK CHAPTER - SAF

IDAHO DEPARTMENT OF FISH & GAME, SANDPOINT HIGH SCHOOL FORESTRY CLASS

PACK RIVER DELTA / RAPID LIGHTNING CREEK TREE PLANTING PROJECT

 

SAF will instruct and assist students from the Sandpoint High School Forestry and Wildlife Class plant 200 white pine seedlings on the Pend Oreille Wildlife Management Area.  The land is managed by Idaho Department of Fish & Game for wildlife habitat.  

 

DATE:                    Thursday, April 28, 2011

TIME:                    9:00 am - Noonish (until 200 seedlings are planted)

 

MEETING

 LOCATION:        Rapid Lightning Creek Segment - Pend Oreille Wildlife Management Area

 

DIRECTIONS:      From Sandpoint -  (approximately 30 minutes drive)

 

·         Take Highway 200 through Ponderay and Kootenai and proceed east (towards Hope and Clark Fork) to Mile Post 36 and Colburn Culver Road.

·         Turn north (left) on Colburn Culver Road and proceed for 2.7 miles to Rapid Lightning Creek Rd. (The Northside Elementary School is located at this intersection.)

·         Turn east (right) on Rapid Lightning Creek Rd. and proceed to Ginter Road.  (Ginter Road is approximately 0.5 mile past the Pack River Bridge and the Rapid Lightning Store.  Stop in the store to sample some of the delicious items from Arlene' Deli.)

·         Turn south (right) on Ginter Road.  Cross over Rapid Lightning Creek and turn left following the  WMA (Wildlife Management Area) road markers approximately 0.6 miles to the parking area.  This is a single-lane rocked road that, as of last Friday, was suitable for low clearance vehicles.

 

WHAT TO BRING:

·         Tree planting tools (if you have them):  hoedad, spade, shovel, planting bar, etc.

·         Other field gear that you may need

 

Kathy Cousins with Idaho Fish & Game will provide her famous Killer Chili for lunch.  SAF CFE credit is available.
