SAF to participate in 2010 Boy Scouts of America National Jamboree
Volunteers Needed
Are you concerned about the detachment of Americans from their Forests and woodlands? Are you passionate about Forestry and the future of American Forests? Do you want to encourage, support and interest the leaders of tomorrow in our Forest today?
Click here to go to the Jamboree website
The Society of American Foresters (SAF) will to participate in the 17th Annual Boy Scouts of America (BSA) National Jamboree, to be held July 26-August 4 at Fort AP Hill in Bowling Green, Virginia.
This is the first time SAF has taken a lead role in coordinating the forestry merit badge at the National Jamboree-an event that draws more than 40,000 young men and women from across the United States and around the globe.
Never before have SAF members had a better opportunity to inform tomorrow's natural resource leaders about the forestry profession and the role it plays in meeting America's need for clean air, quality drinking water, wood products, and so much more.
But we can't do it without your help! Volunteers are needed from July 24 to August 5 to participate in the Jamboree's Conservation Trail as well as help with set-up and break down.
Participants should be willing to work at least a 4-hour shift (or more) in potentially hot and humid weather, and to interact with several thousand young people and members of the public per day. If possible we would like to have a variety of ages, backgrounds, occupations and interests to demonstrate the broad range of careers and concerns within forestry.
Interested? To sign up, or for more information, send an e-mail to scoutjam at safnet.org or for more information call E.Lynn Burkett on 202-468-4110. We'll follow up with a short questionnaire to make the most of your skills, expertise and desired workday. If you are already planning to attend the Jamboree, please let us know.
Out of appreciation for the volunteers time, Jamboree related site fees and lunch will be provided.
