Palouse-Snake River Chapter SAF Members,

My wife, Maggie, and I send you all our best wishes for the holidays!

I am looking forward to an exciting year for the P/SR Chapter. We held an Officer's Meeting this week and have put together a preliminary calendar of workshops and meetings that will provide a range of educational and professional development opportunities
in 2012, as well as more social engagement among the various agency, industry, consulting, and academic groups that make up our membership.

The next Chapter meeting will be January 12 at Smoky Mtn. Pizza in Moscow. Jim Lemieux, Senior Idaho Real Estate Manager for Potlatch Corp., will give an overview of the River Ridge Redevelopment Project and associated
Master Plan for the town of Potlatch. The plans to redevelop the former mill site are an interesting topic with historical and economic importance to the region, and I hope you are all able to attend.

First Friday Breakfasts:

Many great ideas in forestry have come about over pancakes, bacon, and coffee. In the coming year, the other officers and I are planning to meet informally for breakfast at 7:00 AM on the first Friday of each month at The Breakfast Club in Moscow,
beginning January 6, 2012. As your schedule permits, please join us.

A PDF copy of the current 2012 P/SR Calendar is attached, and I will make an electronic version of the calendar available in the near future. A quick sample of items currently scheduled:

I successfully completed my PhD in the College of Natural Resources earlier this month. In a few weeks, I will begin working with the biomass energy group at Idaho National Lab, analyzing logging production and costs associated with emerging forest biomass
markets. I will be in Idaho Falls during late January and early February, and then will be working remotely from Moscow while continuing to teach the forest operations courses at UI.

Here's looking forward to a great year,
