Dear All,
The Palouse-Snake River SAF Chapter is planning to have a field trip in
June to the Craig Mountain Wildlife Management Area southeast of
Lewiston. Last summer the Chimney fire burned a large area of state
land managed by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game, and they
currently are doing salvage logging for wildlife habitat in the area.
The sales are being administered by the Idaho Department of Public Lands
under the direction of Fish and Game. The focus of the trip will be the
firefighting efforts by IDL and other agencies and the cooperative
salvage effort by IF&G and IDL. In addition, a stop is planned at the
Wolf Education and Research Center in Winchester as is an ending
barbecue at Winchester Lake State Park. Depending on how the itinerary
works out, there also may be a stop at the newly acquired Red Bird
Canyon wildlife management area near Waha Lake. Camping is available at
Winchester Lake or Hells Gate State Park near Lewiston. Car pool
arrangements will be made. This event will be assigned CFE credits.
The dates planned are either Friday, June 13 or Saturday, June 14
depending on your preference. Please respond if you would be interested
in attending and which day you prefer. The day that fits the most
schedules will be selected for the tour. Please email your preference
by May 10 to Mark Kimsey (mkimsey at uidaho.edu).
Sincerely,
Mark Kimsey
