Dear All,
The Palouse/Snake River SAF chapter is sponsoring a tour of the Puget
Sound Alternative Energy Windmill Farm and the Columbia Complex Fire on
Saturday, June 30th. A BBQ will follow immediately after the tour.
The tour begins at 10:00AM in Dayton, WA and will be broken into two
parts. The first leg of the tour will be given by Puget Sound Energy,
who will give an ~ 1.5 hour tour of their windmill farm. We will
regroup in Dayton at ~ 12:00PM for a short pit stop and snack and then
head out on the second leg of the tour.
The second leg will head up Robinette Mt. to the Robinson Creek fire
salvage area. We will talk with Bennett Land Company, Broughton Land
Company and several other agencies about their land management practices
following the Columbia Complex fire. This leg of the tour should take
approximately 2 hours.
Following the field presentations and discussions, we will head back to
Dayton for the BBQ.
Initial time estimates would put travelers from Moscow back at ~ 6PM.
Regarding logistics, the SAF chapter will be providing transportation
for 10-12 people. The goal will be to carpool the rest in as few cars
as possible. For those who wish to carpool from Moscow, we will be
meeting in the University of Idaho Kibbie Dome gravel parking lot - west
end. Vehicles can be left and combined there. We will also meet at the
Clarkston Quality Inn Convention Center parking lot to bunch up those
from the valley.
A short time itinerary follows:
1) Meet at the UI Kibbie Dome gravel parking lot at 7:45AM
2) Leave for Clarkston 8:00AM SHARP
3) Meet at the Clarkston Quality Inn Convention Center parking lot at
8:45AM
4) Leave Clarkston at 9:00AM SHARP
5) Arrive at Puget Sound Energy Office - Main St. Dayton, WA - at 10:00AM
6) Depart for Windmill Tour
7) Arrive back in Dayton ~ 11:30-12:00

10) Eat and have fun ~ 4:00PM
11) Arrive back in Clarkston ~ 5:00PM

The cost of the tour and BBQ is tentatively free. We may have to charge
a $5 fee to help cover food costs - depending on the final head count.
Any fees will be collected at the BBQ.
