Palouse-Snake River SAF Chapter Members-

Last night's meeting with Jeff Sayre talking about the Craig-Wyden Bill was
a great success. Be sure to congratulate Keddie Taylor from the University
of Idaho and Kevin Alexander from Washington State University for receiving
Student of the Year Awards!

I received this email from Jeff this morning as a follow up to several of
the questions asked during the meeting and I thought I should pass it along.
Thanks to everyone who participated! Have a good (and sunny) weekend!

Tera

 Tera,
Here is a note I got from the USFS this morning about the RAC and
proposals and projects for the applications on this last funding cycle
for Title II & III. Thanks for the opportunity to talk about Craig-Wyden
last night in front of the SAF. When I sit in a room and hear the
knowledge coming from the professors and students of today I wonder why
the USFS and law makers just don't hear that there are real solutions to
the problems we face in our forests and adopt them and put them to work.
That's why we keep fighting for change to policy. Thanks again. If I can
every help you or anyone in the Society of American Foresters, just
call. The dialog was great!

The next two meetings for the N. Central Idaho RAC are: 6/27/2006,
Grangeville, and 9/6-7/2006. Please mark your calendars. The RAC and
Forest Service (FS) developed a strategy to insure that Title II funds
are
utilized for local projects should the RAC and Title II not be
reauthorized. The objective is to approve enough projects on a
priority
basis to more than cover potential funds by September 30, 2006. This
will
roughly amount to $2 million worth of projects for the five county area.

BY JUNE 16, 2006 - FS personnel and RAC coordinate (use liaison list
sent
in another message) To develop list of potential projects that will be
reviewed at the 6/27 meeting. The list should have project name, Title
II
fund request and forest priority (H,M,L)

JUNE 27, 2006 RAC MEETING - RAC reviews list of projects based on
discussion w/ Forest personnel and provides feed back on which projects
will be considered for approval.

BY AUGUST 18, 2006 - Last day to submit RAC project proposals. FS
personnel and RAC liaisons coordinate to develop one page summary for
each
project the RAC recommended at the 6/27 meeting. Each summary should
provide the following: Project name, FS contact, cost and Title II
funds
requested; project description that includes type of work resource and
other benefits and accomplishments, what specific part of the project
Title
II funds will be used for (contract, supplies, agreements, etc.);
Anticipated start and completion dates; Forest priority (H,M,L).

SEPTEMBER 6-7, 2006 RAC MEETING - RAC reviews and approves projects
based
on discussion w/Forest personnel.
