PALOUSE - SNAKE RIVER SAF CHAPTER
All-
Lisa Naylor with the Blue Mountain RC&D and I have put together a tour of
the School Fire, which burned this summer just outside of Pomeroy. This
will occur on Saturday, October 29th and will be led by the Pomeroy Ranger
District. The tour will travel to some of the most intensely burned areas
on the Umatilla National Forest including Ables Ridge, Willow Springs, and
Iron Springs. We are also trying to organize a stop at a burned over
private landowner's timber sale that is in this area. Other topics that
will be discussed are: the on-going rehab projects, affected endangered
species, loss of private homes/property, and loss of timber value. In
addition, we have scheduled to have lunch around 1 pm at the Historic Pataha
Flour Mill. The owner's/caretakers of the mill have agreed to provide us
lunch on a donation basis. We think this trip will be a lot of fun, so we
would like to open it up to all members plus one guest. In order to make
travel arrangements, we will need an accurate head count, so please RSVP me
as soon as possible if you are interested. We would like to line up some
vans or small buses, but if our numbers are low, we might just carpool. Let
me know what you think, my contact information is below.

7:30 am - Leave Moscow
9:00 am - Leave Pomeroy Ranger District
1:00 pm - Lunch at Historic Pataha Flour Mill
3:30-4:00 pm - Arrive back in Moscow
P.S. We will go regardless of weather conditions, barring that the roads are
still drivable!!
