Simple lessons we all learned long ago apply equally well to real property litigation:
"Play fair": Civility to the Court and Opposing Counsel - demonstrate respect for the legal profession and the court system
"Share everything": Duty of Candor to the Court - acknowledge adverse facts and authorities. Fully investigate claims and defenses.
"Don't hit people": Don't be a bully; if opposing counsel is one, how to deal with them.
"Clean up your own mess": Acknowledge mistakes - settle cases that should be settled in the best interest of the client.
Learn how these ideas have been applied by the Florida Bar in the regulation of lawyers, and why it makes sense to follow them.
