The American Bar Association Forum on the Construction Industry is the largest organization of construction lawyers in the United States and abroad. Its 6,000 members are drawn from all areas of practice: large law firms, small firms, solo practitioners, government lawyers and corporate in-house counsel. Members represent all segments of the construction industry: owners, design professionals, general contractors, construction managers, subcontractors, suppliers, insurers and sureties. The Forum's mission is to serve the construction industry through education and leadership. The Forum sponsors several seminars each year on different topics, and publishes a scholarly journal on construction law topics four times each year, a newsletter three times each year, and several treatises on construction law topics. A Governing Committee elected by the membership governs the Forum's activities.

The Forum's leadership has initiated a fellowship program for women and minority construction lawyers with the goal of introducing the Forum to women and minority construction lawyers and drawing these lawyers into the ranks of active, long-term members. The Forum's Women and Minority Fellowship is intended to serve two purposes: (1) to make the benefits of Forum membership available to women and minority construction lawyers who would like to actively participate in Forum membership on a "risk-free" basis; and (2) to introduce the Forum to women and minority construction lawyers who may be unaware of the Forum's existence and what it has to offer.

Currently, up to four (4) three-year Fellowships are awarded by the Forum each spring. Fellows receive the following benefits:

-Waiver of all registration fees for the Forum's Fall, Mid-winter, and Annual Meetings;

-Reimbursement of reasonable travel and accommodation expenses associated with attending the Forum's Annual Meeting held each spring (not to exceed $1,000 per annum);

-Waiver of Forum membership dues; and

-Payment of ABA membership dues in the following amounts: 100% in Year 1, 66% in Year 2, 33% in Year 3.

Additionally, Fellows are afforded the opportunity to join the steering committee of one of the Forum's twelve (12) Divisions, and if desired, the Forum will arrange a mentor for each Fellow, appropriate to that Fellow's needs (e.g. career advice, guidance on navigating Forum meetings, leadership, committees, etc.).

Fellowship recipients are expected to attend the Forum's Annual Meeting in the spring and are strongly encouraged to attend the Fall and Mid-winter meetings. The Forum's 2012 Annual Meeting will be held April 25 - 27, 2012 in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the Bellagio Hotel.

The application can be found on the Forum on Construction homepage at http://www.americanbar.org/groups/construction_industry.html in the Member Resources section. Completed applications must be received on, or before, Friday, February 10, 2012.
