[RPPTL-constructionlaw] State of the Arnie ( 1 year down )

Dear CLC Faithful: This month marks the end of my first year as your
Chair. As such, this email serves as my "State of the Union" address and
will be a tad more serious than those in the past. I am proud to advise
you that the state of the CLC is AMAZING!

We've grown. We've shared. We've learned how to effectively communicate.
The approximately 600 attorneys that comprise the CLC have totally
gelled.

Please indulge me as I recognize some of the folks who make it happen:
Hardy Roberts - my 1st Vice Chair who is leveraging technology to add
value to our CLC membership and who tolerates my caffeine and sugar
fueled rants. Lisa Colon-Heron - my 2nd Vice Chair for always lining-up
great speakers for our CLE and for her sass. Scott Pence - my new 3rd
Vice Chair and Legislative Affairs Subcommittee Chair for defining the
new officer position and enhancing the his subcommittee. Fred Dudley -
my Secretary who is the consummate historian of all things and provides
me with the context, counsel and perspective to aid my decision making.
Of course, many, many thanks to all of the Chairs, Vice Chairs and
members of the various CLC subcommittees for their hard work and monthly
reporting.

Most importantly, thank you, the CLC membership, for allowing yourself
to be vulnerable by asking your fellow CLC members for help and for
those who go out-on-a-limb by replying to such requests. I laughingly
ask colleagues how much they would pay for the immediate access to 600
of Florida's best construction lawyers to pose questions. Well, the CLC
is only $50.00 per year.

Of course, we owe a great deal of gratitude to those leaders in the
RPPTL Section that have supported our efforts. George Meyer and Peggy
Rolando have championed the CLC for years and paraded us in front of the
other RPPTL committees as an example. That means we are doing something
right. Two things have resulted - both of which were to be expected.

First, the other RPPTL committees have begun to emulate the CLC by
pursuing membership growth, initiating monthly conference calls with CLE
and mimicking the innovative, highly valuable things that we do.
Imitation (or plagiarism) is the sincerest form of flattery. Thank you!

Secondly, as George and Peggy have moved up and on, new management has
ascended in the RPPTL ranks which doesn't "get" us and, of course, wants
to "manage" us. Think Dean Vernon Wormer of Faber College in the movie
"Animal House." Actually, it's a little more like ROTC Cadet Officer
Douglas Neidermeyer of the Omega Theta Pi house (and the CLC is Delta
Tau Chi).

While I have heard cries for sucession from the RPPTL Section or for
initialing a vote of no confidence as to this new division leadership,
such will not take place on my watch unless absolutely necessary to
preserve our union and way of life. (That sounded a little too Tea
Party-ish.) Don't worry - I can deal with the Salieris of the world.
(yes - that's makes me Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and this is the 2nd
reference to a film in which actor Tom Hulce played a leading role).

My goal for the CLC in the coming year is to engage the membership and
encourage it to take advantage of all that the CLC has to offer. Such
always leads me to our monthly teleconference calls.

Don't forget that this Monday, August 13, 2012, is our August meeting
and CLE. The call will start promptly at 11:30 a.m. You will receive,
yet another, email from me on Monday morning prior to the conference
call which will include the Meeting's agenda, etc.. I hope that you will
be able to attend.

Many thanks for allowing me to serve as your Chair. Your humble
servant - Arnie.
