Dear CLC members - we were contacted by a Legal Aid office that works with
the Florida
Community Development Legal Services project that provides services to
qualifying small businesses and nonprofit organizations. The request for a
pro bono attorney follows and if someone can take a look at it, please let
me know and I will put you directly in touch with the Legal Aid office for
further information.
Thank you,
Pam Holcombe,
Chair CLC Pro Bono
PS - we are still looking for a Co-Chair and Vice Chairs for this
subcommittee so please reach out if you can assist.

*ur client is a small restaurant tenant experiencing a persistent odor
problem in the leased space. The landlord attributes the issue to the
tenant’s prior build-out but has provided no supporting evidence. The
client, however, has photographs, videos, and witness statements indicating
the condition stems from long-term corrosion in the building’s vent and
drainage system that predated the tenancy, including videos in which the
landlord’s own plumber identifies cracks and deterioration. Neighboring
tenants report similar issues for years. In attempting to investigate and
mitigate the problem, the client incurred nearly $10,000 in expenses and
suffered significant business disruption over several months. We requested
reimbursement and rent/CAM abatement, and the client is willing to
compromise, but the landlord has declined to engage and has instead
threatened litigation and attorney’s fees.*
